It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like MOBILE

More than half of consumers owning a mobile device plan to use a smartphone or tablet to tackle their holiday shopping this year. According to Prosper Mobile Insights’ online poll of 333 smartphone users, among those 55.3% of mobile holiday shoppers:

  • 62% say they plan to use their devices primarily to purchase products and compare prices
  • 50% say they are most likely to use their devices to plan and research while making their holiday lists
  • 43% say they are most likely to use their devices while shopping in-store or online

eMarketer shares a statistic from Chase Paymentech that US retailers with a web presence expect just over half of their holiday sales to come from e-commerce, with an additional 6% to come solely from m-commerce. Retailers are counting on mobile to drive sales after smartphones help set a new record for Cyber Monday: IBM Research shows a 20%+ increase in shopping on Cyber Monday due to smartphones, contributing to the over $1 billion total spend.
